sy+ToThIsl.jpg" /> What a wonderful day on Ramsey today. It is such a lovely Island. Blue Skies lots of birds, Buzzard, Chough, Raven, Larks, Pipits, Goldfinches, Stonechats, Fulmars the list goes on. Plus seals and, I saw my first Ramsey Vole as well as a small Lizard fancying his chances with my Ham Sandwich!

St David's RNLI 14 April 2013

Today was a special day in the history of the St David’s RNLI The new Tamar boat arrived - she will work alongside the existing Tyneside boat 'Garside' until the new lifeboat station for the larger new boat is built. We were privileged to see the launch of the existing boat (Garside) and spot on 4.30 as planned arrival of the new Tyneside class boat.

'Birds and Ladders'

A fall off a pair of steps onto a concrete step at the end of Feb has left me effectively house bound with cracked ribs and bones in shoulder. Ribs now OK but shoulder – wow. Today was lovely to be out early to see four Gargany just outside St David’s following yesterdays sighting of up to 20 Golden Plover in summer dress and a brief sighting of a Female Marsh harrier on St Davids Airfield Thanks to Paul St Pierre and Dave Astins for keeping us up to date with the sighting

Mid Pembs and Pembs Bird group Pelagic Trips 2013

The two Groups of the WTSWW are again combining this year to carry out three pelagic trips from Neyland on the superb boat Celtic Wildcat. The dates are Tuesday 23rd July Thursday 8th and Thursday 22nd of August. Weather permitting the trips will ‘take in’ the only Gannetry in Wales (Grassholm) and then head out to sea looking for Sea Birds, Seals, Dolphins and fingers crossed Whales. This is a great opportunity to join us and see marine wildlife in the natural environment in localities normally difficult to visit. This is great value at £55 for an all day trip with tea and Biscuits, toilet, shelter and experienced mariners and guides on board also. The trip leaders will be Robin and /or Lyndon. St David's and the weather !!

Just about everyone has experienced bad weather in the last few weeks – locally to St David’s ours has been mainly high winds and rain. Today the sun is shining so an opportunity to visit pools, water flashes and flooded areas and meadows, sadly not a lot. However this Mute swan taking advantage of a flooded camp site at Newgale did bring back memories (distant!!) of blue skies – sunshine and better things to come

Turtle doves - This and that

Thanks to Jenny, a near neighbour, we have been alerted to the presence of a Turtle dove near where I live. At last I caught up with it today in another neighbour’s garden. It seems to be spending time with a pair of Collared doves – could be fun and games in the spring!! Perhaps it has not read the book on migration. However, despite the winter conditions this year it seems to be doing OK. I think I am correct in saying the last winter sighting in Pembrokeshire was in Richard Stonier’s garden near Strumble head late December 2010 Despite the awful conditions across the UK we have been pretty free of frost and snow just on this little SW tip of Wales – so why have we not been visited by more Thrushes, Waders, Wildfowl etc? I had hoped to post wonderful pictures from Norfolk by now but the Snowman and Jack Frost decided I was not to get there. Unusually though conditions encouraged blackbirds to the feeders at the kite centre Nant yr Arian nr Aberystwyth.
