Little Auk - Near St Davids - North Pembs Coast

Many thanks to Lady Beaumont who phoned me earlier to say she had a bird, found in her garden, which she had rescued from the attention of Magpies and placed 'in a cardboard box'.  The bird was indeed a Little Auk no doubt blown from the sea on strong overnight winds and driving rain.  A phone call to Richard Dobbins and both he and Chris Jones came, weighed and measured the bird.  Photographs were taken. The Auk seemed in excellent health and was taken to Abereiddy Beach where it flew off strongly.  This release beach was chosen as it was  'Gull free' thus reducing the risk of predation.   Good teamwork, good PR, and, the bird now has the opportunity to live the rest of its life at sea where it belongs.
