During the summer at St Justinians on the Coast path I watched a 'Digger Wasp' digging a hole, catching and paralising its prey, taking the prey down the hole where it will have laid an egg on the prey which will be consumed by the grub on hatching. Dry sunny spots are chosen for warmth to encourage developement of the grub. (Thanks to Nathan Walton WTSWW for ID and info) More can be found about this wasps lifestyle at https://www.buglife.org.uk/bugs-and-habitats/digger-wasps.
